Depression and Spiritual treatments in some parts of the world have proven to be a none-scientific approach and therefore, not acceptable. The question really is about the background of individuals and a nation at large, so such topics as depression and spiritual treatments will surely differ.
Depression as a topic alone has been seen majorly as the work of Psychologists and Counselors. When an individual is facing the challenge of being depressed most of the time it is quickly analyzed and categorized under several names but on this note, I’ll mention two and explain in few lines because that is not our focus.
Having intrinsic knowledge about basic fault of temperament in the name of depression is very vital and pivotal in the approach of treating the menace. But, if spiritual treatment is not added to the mix, it will definitely not be balanced.
Persistent Depressive Disorder
If you have depression that lasts for 2 years or longer, it’s called persistent depressive disorder. This term is used to describe two conditions previously known as dysthymia (low-grade persistent depression) and chronic major depression.
Someone with bipolar disorder, which is also sometimes called “manic depression” has mood episodes that range from extremes of high energy with an “up” mood to low “depressive” periods. When you’re in the low phase, you’ll have the symptoms of major depression. Medication can help bring your mood swings under control. Whether you’re in a high or a low period, your doctor may suggest a mood stabilizer, such as lithium.
What is the Spiritual Treatment for Depression
In this note, being a Christian, I am taking my cue from the Grand Book, the Bible for proper reference.
Jesus who is the key focus of the entire bible said something in the book of,
John: 10:10b, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more more abundantly.”
Depression will deny you of the life Jesus Christ promised and has done through his death and resurrection on the cross which we today call salvation.
I believe that there are two major reasons for depression which are disappointment and lack of fulfillment.
Trust which is a prerequisite of happiness has an opposite, disloyalty which can also be referred to as Disappointment. When you trust something or someone enough to do something or even yourself but fail, sadness is the first reaction which is completely normal.
“It’s normal to feel down once in a while, but if you’re sad most of the time and it affects your daily life, you may have clinical depression.”
Let me rephrase this statement made by WebMD, that it is normal to feel sad once in a while due disappointment in this note, but when it lingers for so long then it becomes a problem or like WebMD put it, ‘Clinical Depression’.
The books of the bible written by different Spirit inspired authors surely drew that inspiration from one source, as we see evidence in 2Timothy 3:16,
“All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, , for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works”
What has this got to do with Depression? Simple, since God Almighty inspired men of old to write out his intentions, which we have proof that God is wiser than all of humanity, then we should believe the words of the scripture which are for our benefit and cure to all manner of depression as it is with this article and the best spiritual solution to all manner of depression.
How does this kind of spiritual treatment deal with Disappointment that leads some people to depression?
Matthew 6:31 (Old King James Version)
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or Wherewithal shall we be clothed?”
I like the way the Message Bible responds to this question I made the Old King James Version bible to pose; it said,
“People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.
Mathew 6:31 (Message Bible Version)
Then, one of the most popular scriptural statement emerged.
33. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ”
Matthew 6:33 (Old King James Version)
Check the Message Bible version as I will end this series of scripture with.
33. “Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”
34. “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”
These ain’t just mere words, but as earlier explained, words from God, revealing his hearty intentions towards all of humanity. Depression which is sometimes from disappointment of lack of basic needs of life is being expressed here that it has a source and in abundance. This Spiritual words carry a definite solution, doing God’s work first, that is, making your number one priority.
What do I mean by putting God first?
Off course, literally, put God first. The Wisdom applied here is based on knowledge of the potential God has placed in you to have anything you want accordingly.
